Old Forester cassett player distorted

Sound system on my 2001 Forester suddenly malfunctions, it now plays like a welding machine. Tried on other cassette players and it plays music just fine. Any idea on this? Should I just replace it with the newer generations stereo?

Hahaha yep. That happens quite normal for the old Foresters. If you're still rocking cassettes, might as well upgrade to a modern head unit with Bluetooth and call it a win. Plug and play kits make it real easy nowadays. Move on from the cassettes, man, it's really hard to still stick to that at this period of time. You can try installing a LED for a change, especially if your Forester is still fighting for its life.

Talk about nostalgia! yeah, i think upgrading the way to go. not sure if there are repair shops for cassette stereos anymore

That def is not normal. Since other cassette players work fine, its probably an issue with the head unit itself, maybe a failing amplifier or some worn-out internal components. Given the age, it might be worth upgrading to a newer stereo like they say, especially if you want better sound quality and features like Bluetooth. Plus, newer units usually make life easier and more reliable than trying to fix an old one.
